Bio/Admin History:The Banff Community Society was a liaison group representing town of Banff to the Government of Canada. Over the years, various groups have represented the interests of Banff residents and businesses in the absence of municipal government. These have included the Banff Board of Trade, 1912-1915, the Banff Citizen's Association, 1921 (became the Banff Advisory Council in 1925). The latter served until 1978, when the Banff Advisory Society (later the Banff Community Society) was organized. In 1983 the Banff Community Society's responsibilities were assumed by the Banff School Board.
Scope/Content:Fonds consists of minutes of the Banff Community Society and predecessor organizations. Includes briefs, studies and meeting materials. Pertains to the Banff Board of Trade 1912-1915; Banff Citizens' Association, Banff Advisory Council, 1921-1978; Banff Advisory Society, Banff Community Society, 1978-1983; and Joint Committee on Future Townsite Administration, 1980.
